In order to win the game, the level of your “strongest” opponent is the first thing you have to consider. If your opponent is a master of the game (Model 1 below), you should play in a way that maximizes your chances of achieving all the scores 1 to 15 (that’s 220 points) and simultaneously, especially in the beginning of the game, try to achieve 16, 17 and 18 (which will give you a decent chance of landing at 271 points). If your opponent is considerably weaker than you are, you can count on the fact that he or she is not going to get both the top and the middle bonus, and then the best strategy is to play as if you were playing online (alone), see Model 2 below.
Model 1: Skip the bottom bonus and go for the top (and middle, as always). It is challenging to get the top bonus, so remember that achieving 1 and 2 cannot wait until the last few turns of the game (because they are rather hard to get). When it comes to 16–18, try to get them in a turn with a lot of ’s (which could give you 20, if you’re lucky), but don’t forget that 16 can also be achieved with only ’s and ’s.
Model 2: Skip the top bonus and go for the bottom (and middle, of course). In the beginning of the game, think like this: ’s and ’s can only lead to something good. If you skip the top bonus, you can zero out all numbers from 1 to 5, and thus have several tries at getting 19 and 20. Should you succeed, you’ll land at 295 points. If you fail in achieving both 19 and 20, you still have 206 points, which might be enough against a novice.
Always decide which of these strategies you use. Often you need to change strategy halfway through a game.21st March 2016 at 01:14 #1159Magnus SvenssonParticipant
If you follow model 2, remember to ONLY go for 19 and 20 in rounds with an initially good chance of getting them. Let’s say your first roll gives you , then I would go for 20 ONLY IF it’s early in the game (and especially if I haven’t yet achieved all of 16, 17 and 18). But later in the game, I would go for 18 (if it’s still not achieved).
